Signal Environmental Founder and Principal, Derrick Blay received his undergraduate degree from McGill University and an M.Sc from the University of Wales. In 2007 he received a Fellowship from the Dobson Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at McGill University and just one year later he was trained by Nobel laureate Al Gore as a volunteer presenter for The Climate Project Canada. Derrick is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional with the Canada Green Building Council.
Derrick has also led numerous soil and groundwater remediation projects and site decommissionings throughout Eastern Canada. Many of these remediation projects were components of regional scale environmental impact assessments that encompassed local community concerns with project development goals. Several of these projects were performed for some of Canada's largest transport sector and resort development companies. He lectures regularly at McGill University and has performed presentations on LEED, environmental assessment, environmental characterization, and remediation techniques and innovations to audiences at Queens University and Dawson College.
More recently Derrick has devoted his efforts to the energy conservation sector using tools such as BOMA Best, LEED and RETscreen to track and inform decisions.
